Follower risk
Cap copied order sizes, size cTrader followers, and lock copying to a follower without touching the broker.
Every follower copies at a size you control, and each copy uses the smallest limit that applies to it. Set these before you turn a group on. Changing them while a group copies restarts it for about 2 seconds, and a master trade in that moment is not copied.
Set a maximum per trade
- Open the group's Copier Canvas and select the master.
- Open Settings.
- Enter Maximum per trade, in contracts for futures or lots for cTrader and Match-Trader. Leave it blank for no maximum.
- Choose Save settings.
- Tradovate and NinjaTrader followers copy the master's contract quantity, one for one. A copy larger than the maximum is reduced to the maximum.
- On Rithmic, a copy above the maximum is not sent at all, and the group pauses for review.
- A Tradovate or NinjaTrader follower takes the maximum that is set when you add it. Lowering the group maximum always applies. Raising it does not lift a lower maximum a follower already has; Settings shows how many followers keep a lower one.
Maximums limit new entries only. Closes always use the quantity the copier actually opened.
Size cTrader followers
- Select the follower and open Sizing.
- Choose Edit sizing.
- Pick a Sizing basis and fill in its fields.
- Choose Save sizing.
| Sizing basis | What each new entry copies |
|---|---|
| Lot multiplier | The master's lots, times the risk scale. |
| Balance proportional | The master's lots, scaled by follower balance ÷ master balance, times the risk scale. |
| Reference balance | Like Balance proportional, but against a master balance you enter instead of the master's live balance. |
| Fixed lots | One lot size you choose for every master order, whatever its size. |
The other fields:
- Risk scale multiplies the result.
1×keeps the natural size. Enter more than 0 and up to 100. - Default contract sizing decides what happens when the two brokers define a lot differently. Contract aligned, the recommended choice, keeps the same contract exposure. Same lots copies the same lot count, which can be much larger or smaller at the follower's broker, so you must tick the exposure warning to save it.
- Follower maximum per trade caps each new entry for this follower. Leave it blank to use the group maximum.
A risk scale above 1, Balance proportional and Reference balance all need a maximum on the follower or the group. Saving is blocked without one.
Balance-based sizing
With Balance proportional, a 50,000 USD follower copying a 100,000 USD master at 0.8× starts at 40% of the master's size, before contract alignment and maximums. The master and follower must use the same account currency; trackmyprop never converts currencies.
With Reference balance, a 25,000 USD follower against a 100,000 USD reference at 0.8× starts at 20%. The master's deposits, withdrawals and P&L do not change this ratio. The reference is saved in the follower's account currency. If the follower's currency changes later, new entries stop until you save the reference again.
If a balance or currency cannot be read when a master trade arrives, that follower skips the entry and Logs shows why. Other followers copy as normal, and the skipped entry is not copied later.
Fixed lots
With a 0.25 target, a new 2-lot master order and a new 10-lot master order each open 0.25 lots on the follower. Partial fills of one master order share that target; a separate scale-in order gets its own. Risk scale, balance and contract ratio are ignored, but maximums still apply. A target below the broker's minimum is blocked unless that symbol uses Raise to minimum.
What stays the same when you change sizing
- New sizing applies to future master orders only.
- Partial fills of one master order are sized together, and maximums apply once per master order.
- Partial and full closes stay in proportion to what the copier actually opened, so a later change never makes a close too big.
Use Broker preview in Sizing to test an example master size. It shows the follower's final lots after sizing, contract alignment, maximums and the broker's minimum, maximum and lot step. Choose Refresh broker data for a fresh reading. The preview never sends an order.
Set rules for one symbol on cTrader
- Select the follower, open Symbols and choose Manage symbols.
- Choose Customize on a symbol's row.
- Set its Sizing to Contract aligned, Same lots or Fixed lots, and its Max lots if you want a cap for that symbol.
- Under Below minimum, keep Skip, or turn on Raise to round an undersized entry up to the broker's minimum.
- Use Preview master size to check the result, then choose Save mappings.
A symbol rule wins over the follower's default. Raise to minimum adds exposure, and it never goes past a symbol, follower or group maximum. See Match symbols across cTrader brokers for choosing the follower symbol itself.
Lock copying to a follower
On Tradovate and NinjaTrader groups you can pause one follower inside trackmyprop for a set time.
- Select the follower and open Safety.
- Choose Lock copying….
- Pick 1 hour, 4 hours or Until a time…. The dialog shows the exact end time.
- Choose Lock copying.
Copied working orders on that follower can still be changed or cancelled while the group runs. The lock ends at the saved time. To end it sooner, choose Unlock copying… and confirm; copying can resume right away if the group is running.
Check a follower's locks
The follower's Safety tab shows which locks block new trades:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Broker lock | Tradovate reports a lock on the account, such as a manual lockout or liquidation-only mode. |
| Follower lock | You locked copying to this follower in trackmyprop. |
| Risk rule lock | A saved trackmyprop risk rule tripped. |
| A count, such as 2 locks | More than one lock applies. |
| No lock detected | The latest check found no lock. It is not a guarantee that an order will be accepted. |
| Status unavailable | The lock status could not be read. It never means unlocked. |
Before each copy to a Tradovate follower, trackmyprop checks its broker lock status again. If that status is out of date or shows a new lock, the order is not sent and is not opened later. Other followers still copy.
Broker lockouts and risk rules
- A manual lockout you start in Risk settings on a follower pauses copies to it until the lockout ends, with a notification for each group. It works like Lock copying, so master closes are not copied to it either.
- Before a lockout or risk-limit change on a master that leads a live group, trackmyprop warns that any liquidation Tradovate makes is copied to the followers. Tick the confirmation, or choose Turn off group first… so the followers keep their positions. A group you turn off copies and manages nothing.
- When a saved daily loss or profit rule trips on a Tradovate account, trackmyprop blocks new copies and tries to close open positions while the app runs. It does not cancel working entry orders; manage those at the broker.
- On Tradovate and NinjaTrader, followers with saved risk rules need you signed in to trackmyprop. Signed out, they take no new entries; exits still go out.
- When a cTrader risk lock flattens an account, trackmyprop first cancels the copier's entry orders, then closes open positions. Your manual orders and protective orders are left alone.
