Trade journal
Review your performance, browse trades by day, week or month, and write notes on trades, days and challenges.
The Journal group in the sidebar has three pages: Trade journal for your performance, Trades for every trade by day, week and month, and Notebook for your notes and reviews. Trades arrive from your live connections and manual imports. Press ⌘2 to open the Trade journal.
Choose what you are looking at
Every Journal page uses the pickers at the top of the sidebar:
- Account: one account, a challenge, or All accounts. Press ⌘P to switch.
- Period: a preset such as This month, Year to date or All time, or a Custom range. Its Timezone tab sets the time zone for the whole app.
- Symbol: All symbols or one instrument.
Review your performance
The Trade journal shows, from top to bottom:
- Headline stats: Net P&L, Trade win %, Profit factor, Day win % and Average win/loss trade
- P&L Calendar for the month. Choose a day or week total to open it in Trades, or Today to come back to this month.
- Evaluation, 17 measures of performance, risk, consistency and behaviour
- Daily Cumulative P&L, Net Daily P&L and track Score
- Drawdown, Trade time performance and Trade duration performance
- Equity graph
- Performance by weekday, Performance by month and Performance by instrument
- Recent Trades
Trade win % is winning trades divided by winning plus losing trades, so breakeven trades are left out. It shows — when the period has no winning or losing trade. Day win % counts breakeven days in the total.
track Score
track Score rates your trading out of 100 once you have at least five closed trades in the period. Until then it shows At least 5 trades needed. It is built only from trade results, so adding balance history does not change it.
| Axis | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Edge | Average profit per trade compared with the average loss |
| Risk | Your largest run of closed-trade losses compared with the average loss. One average loss scores 100, five score 50, ten or more score 0. |
| Recovery | Net P&L compared with that largest run of losses |
| Consistency | The share of trading days that ended positive |
| Discipline | Your largest single loss compared with the average loss |
| Sample | Number of trades. 100 or more earns full marks. |
The overall score is the average of the six axes, capped at 60 while Edge is below 40. Where you have no losses yet, the loss-based axes show No losses instead of a ratio. To see a score across several accounts, they must share one currency; otherwise select one account.
Equity graph
The Equity graph shows your balance over the period, with Latest, Net, Peak and Low. When every selected account reports live open P&L, the period runs to today and no symbol is selected, it adds a Now, with open P&L point. Otherwise its header says how many accounts are live, for example 1 of 3 accounts live.
Set balance targets
- Select one account in the sidebar. For a challenge with several accounts, choose one of the accounts listed under it.
- On the Equity graph, choose Targets.
- Choose Add target, then enter a Name and a Profit target in dollars. A negative target draws a line below your starting balance.
- Choose Save.
Each target appears as a line on the graph, and the Targets panel shows how far you have to go. Choose Edit in the panel to change them.
Trading days and periods
Every trade counts toward its account's trading day:
- Futures accounts (Tradovate, NinjaTrader, Rithmic, Volumetrica, dxFeed, DeepCharts) use the CME session, 17:00 to 17:00 Chicago time. A trade closed after 17:00 Chicago counts toward the next day, and a Sunday-evening trade counts toward Monday.
- CFD and forex accounts use the broker's day boundary when trackmyprop knows it, otherwise midnight on the broker's clock. To set it, choose the reporting time zone in the connection's settings.
- Other accounts use the calendar day in your app time zone.
Daily P&L, the calendars, the daily loss rules, Activity, Notebook and share cards all use this one rule. When every account in view shares the same day, the calendar is labelled Session: CME or Broker day.
Periods that run through today, such as This month or Last 7 days, include the current trading session, so an evening futures trade that already counts toward tomorrow stays in. Custom range and Last month end on their last day.
Browse your trades
Open Journal → Trades. It starts on History, a table of every trade in the account and period you picked. Use the arrow next to Trades in the sidebar to switch to Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
| View | What you see |
|---|---|
| History | 25 trades a page. Filter trades… searches all of them, and the column headers sort. |
| Daily | A card per trading day with its stats and trades. Customize columns picks the table columns. |
| Weekly | A card per week, with your best and worst weeks and your streak. |
| Monthly | A P&L calendar of the month. |
Search and sort cover every trade that matches your filters, not only the current page.
Each trade row has three buttons under Actions:
- The note button opens the trade's note.
- The embed button copies a reference to the trade, to paste into a note.
- The share button turns the trade into an image.
A row shows before fees when the broker has not reported its fees, and an Exchange time when your time zone differs from the exchange's.
Check how a cTrader trade was filled
For a cTrader trade, choose the arrow at the start of its row to see each entry and exit with its time, quantity, price and P&L. A position closed in three parts stays one trade with three exits. Totals reconciled means the exits add up to the trade; Totals need review shows the difference. Broker-reported orders lists each order's final state, including cancelled orders.
Write notes
You can write a note on a trade, day, week, month, challenge or payout, or keep a personal note. The top of each note says what it is about, such as Trade note, Day review or Personal note.
- For a trade, choose the note button in its row.
- For a day, choose Journal on its card in Trades → Daily, or Write review in the Notebook.
- For a week, choose Start week review in the Notebook.
- For a quick personal note, press ⇧⌘N anywhere.
Notes save as you type and again when you close them; the note shows Saving… and then Saved. Press Esc or choose the close button to close it. Press ⌘B in a note for bold.
Embed trades and accounts in a note
Type /embed in a note, or choose Embed from the / menu, then pick a trade, day, week, month, challenge, payout, account or connection. It appears as a live card. You can also copy a reference with the embed button on a trade row or card and paste it after /embed.
Use the Notebook
The Notebook has three views:
- Day: one page per trading day, with Notes from this day, Trades closed this day and Challenge activity.
- Week: the week's results and your week review.
- Library: every note, with Search notes and tools to select and delete.
A note opened in the Notebook stays beside it. To keep it open on other pages, for example while you find a trade to embed, choose Keep open on other tabs.
To save a note outside trackmyprop, open it and choose Export, then Export as Markdown or Export as HTML.
If a trade is missing or a number looks wrong
Check that its account is selected in the sidebar and its trading day is inside the period. For a live account, choose Sync at the top of the window. For a manual account, import the latest broker file in Manual Imports. See Sync and connection issues.
Some forex brokers, such as TradeLocker, report P&L in the pair's quote currency. trackmyprop keeps it in that currency and never guesses an exchange rate. These trades are left out of totals, counts and win rate, and a note above the totals says how many.
The broker has not reported fees for any of these trades, so the total is gross. P&L (fees incomplete) means fees are missing for some of them.
ROI, Max drawdown, Sharpe ratio and Sortino ratio need each account's balance from before the period, in a known currency shared by every selected account. trackmyprop never fills the gap with today's balance or a guessed exchange rate. Open the row's info to see the reason, or select one account.
Keep the note open so you don't lose the text, then make another edit to try again. See Cloud sync.
- Tradovate, NinjaTrader, cTrader, Volumetrica and Match-Trader trades are the broker's own round trips.
- TradeLocker and Rithmic trades are built from your fills, first in, first out. A TradeLocker position is one row: partial closes fold into it, and its P&L counts on the day of the final close. TradeLocker does not report fees or swap, so its P&L is gross.
- Match-Trader history starts from the account's creation date, or covers the last year when the platform does not say when the account was opened.
- DXtrade trade history does not come into the journal yet.
When the broker's final record of a trade replaces an earlier live row, your notes move to it.
